Valmer Celebrates Samaïn!

But what is Samaïn?


Samaïn originated with the Celts. This festival celebrated the passage from light to darkness with the arrival of winter. It crossed the Atlantic to become the ancestor of Halloween.


On Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st October and Friday 1st November, come and take part in the workshops and experience the thrill of Valmer!

Programme :

 

  • Guided tour ‘Witch plants’ at 3.30pm (in French) -Why did witches fly on broomsticks? What are the effects of mandrake? Can sage really ‘ward off death’? Discover the magical world of plants that have been used to make many potions over the centuries. An activity for young and old in the heart of the conservatory kitchen garden. (visit without reservation)
  • Samaïn's Scary Gourds’ workshop, decorating gourds and gourds from the Valmer orchard - It's time to give free rein to your imagination by creating terrifying, touching or simply funny gourds... Children can take their work home with them and cut out their gourd at home to make an original candle jar for the scariest party of the year!Free workshop under the responsibility of an adult.
  • Origami Samaïn’ workshop, the art of paper folding - Come and learn how to create your own pumpkins, bats, monsters and other creatures to take home with you.
  • Garden Game (from age 7): €5/booklet (in French only)
